Configure PagerDuty for the AI Gateway

To allow your users to securely query incidents, on-call schedules, and services using their AI clients, you can configure the PagerDuty Model Context Protocol (MCP) server within the JumpCloud AI Gateway.

Prerequisites

  • Before configuring specific enterprise applications, we recommend reviewing the Get Started: AI Gateway guide to familiarize yourself with the gateway architecture and core AI concepts (such as MCP servers and AI clients).

Completing Application Setup

Before you can connect this server to the AI Gateway, you must determine your authentication method. See PagerDuty’s MCP Tooling: Remote Server and Remote MCP Server Setup to learn more.

  • OAuth: Provide static OAuth client credentials for metadata discovery, or use a Bearer OAuth access token. PagerDuty does not use Dynamic Client Registration for the remote MCP server.
  • API Token: Create a PagerDuty User API Token in My Profile > User Settings > API Access.
Important

PagerDuty API token authentication uses a nonstandard header format: Authorization: Token token=<your-api-key> (not Bearer). Confirm your JumpCloud AI Gateway deployment formats PagerDuty API tokens correctly. The remote server exposes 60+ tools, including write actions by default—scope access carefully.

Configuring the Server in JumpCloud

See Adding MCP Servers in Configure AI Gateway Integrations and use the following values to configure this server:

  • App: Select PagerDuty (if you have an existing SSO application or bookmark), or + Add App to create it
  • Name: Enter a name, for example PagerDuty
  • Prefix: Enter a value to prepend to MCP tool names
    • Note: Prefixes must be unique. Maximum 8 characters, letters and numbers only
  • URL: Enter the PagerDuty MCP server URL depending on your region:
    • US: https://mcp.pagerduty.com/mcp
    • EU: https://mcp.eu.pagerduty.com/mcp
  • MCP Authentication method: Select OAuth or API Token, then complete the corresponding fields that appear:
  • OAuth: Under Advanced fields, enter the Client ID and Client Secret if your PagerDuty OAuth app requires them.
  • API Token: In the App API documentation link field, enter https://pagerduty.github.io/pagerduty-mcp-server/docs/remote-server/setup

Your users will now see PagerDuty listed as an available application when they authenticate their AI clients through the JumpCloud AI Gateway. If you selected API Token authentication, users can click the documentation link you provided to learn how to create a User API Token.
