Configure Airtable for the AI Gateway

To allow your users to securely query bases, tables, and records using their AI clients, you can configure the Airtable Model Context Protocol (MCP) server within the JumpCloud AI Gateway.

Prerequisites

  • Before configuring specific enterprise applications, we recommend reviewing the Get Started: AI Gateway guide to familiarize yourself with the gateway architecture and core AI concepts (such as MCP servers and AI clients).

Completing Application Setup

Before you can connect this server to the AI Gateway, you must determine your authentication method. See Airtable’s Using the Airtable MCP server and Connecting Other AI Clients Airtable MCP to learn more.

  • OAuth: Airtable’s MCP server supports OAuth Dynamic Client Registration (DCR), so no app creation or additional configuration is required to connect it to the AI Gateway for interactive use.
  • API Token: If you want to set up automation, scripts, or other non-interactive workflows, Airtable also supports personal access token (PAT) authentication. Create a PAT with the Airtable MCP scopes you need. See Airtable’s Authentication to learn more.

MCP permissions mirror each user’s existing Airtable permissions. Users can only access bases and records they are already allowed to view or edit.

Configuring the Server in JumpCloud

See Adding MCP Servers in Configure AI Gateway Integrations and use the following values to configure this server:

  • App: Select Airtable (if you have an existing SSO application or bookmark), or + Add App to create it
  • Name: Enter a name, for example Airtable
  • Prefix: Enter a value to prepend to MCP tool names
    • Note: Prefixes must be unique. Maximum 8 characters, letters and numbers only
  • URL: https://mcp.airtable.com/mcp
  • MCP Authentication method: Select OAuth or API Token, then complete the corresponding fields that appear:
  • OAuth: Under Advanced fields, no additional configuration is required.
  • API Token: In the App API documentation link field, enter https://airtable.com/developers/agents/mcp/other#authentication

Your users will now see Airtable listed as an available application when they authenticate their AI clients through the JumpCloud AI Gateway. If you selected API Token authentication, users can click the documentation link you provided to learn how to create a personal access token.
